New Zealand is nice…

.. but they drive on the wrong side of the road.  Hah.

Travel down was uneventful.  Oh, except for the fog at New Plymouth airport which meant a 6 hour bus trip instead of a 45 minute flight.  Had a pleasant night in Auckland, three nights in Taranaki, and two nights in Wairarapa.  Down in Wellington now, busy strolling around the city and catching up with different people.

Sunny .. looks like summer may have arrived just in time.  20 minutes to sunburn though, as opposed to 3 hours plus in the California sun.

So sunny, in fact, that I’m not going to stay in this internet cafe for any longer.

First set of pics are here.

They’re the worlds most fearsome fighting team…

… they’re heroes in a half-shell and they’re greeeeeen. When the evil Shredder attacks, these turtle boys don’t cut him no slack!

This is going to be awesome. They were definitely up there in the ranks of childhood heroes. I can still sing the theme song, much to the disturbance of my poor long-suffering workmate. March the 30th, you say.

Less than three days of work left until I’m headed back to NZ. Four towns/cities, three weddings, two weeks. Cowabunga!

I’m not an Apple fanboy..

Filed under: Random — jsf @ 12:45 pm

.. but this new iPhone looks very very cool.

Fascinating to see the amount of hype that has surrounded this. People really do love Apple, and when they put out a funky new product like this it all just gets a little crazy.

Coverage of the keynote here.

Also interesting:

  • Seeing the effect of Job’s presentation against the Apple (AAPL) stock price [screenshot]. Dips initially, when they think he’s only going to announce the Apple TV, but then climbs pretty crazily when he announces the iPhone. And keeps climbing, when people realise what a killer product this appears to be.
  • Seeing the inverse effect against Palm’s (PALM) stock price [screenshot]. And the Blackberry folks (RIMM) as well [screenshot]. They’ll be hurting after this .. their phones just don’t even begin to compare.

Nice to be a Cingular customer .. the price is a bit steep, but I think I could be tempted to make a purchase come June. Might have to do the usual wait-until-second-generation though.

Sometimes life just moves too slowly

So much to look forward to, and sitting at the desk time tends to drag a little.

New Years in Seattle was up there in the ‘best ever’ category .. ended it sitting on the Queen Anne hill, watching the fireworks being set off from the Space Needle. Quite odd to look back to a year ago, when I was stuck in Wellington due to work. That one ended up with me having a midnight beer at the top of Makara Peak before flicking on the headlight and perfectly riding (not even a dab!) Trickle Falls .. the hardest track in the park. If you can’t tell, I’m still a little chuffed with that. How times change.

Drove up to Oakland early this morning (East Bay .. about an hour north up the 880) for a meeting, only to find that the client had flown off somewhere else for the week. Oh well, it’s all milage that can be claimed back. Interesting city that .. very different feeling to the others around here. Famous exports include Green Day, the A’s, Tom Hanks, Clint Eastwood, MC Hammer, Jack London, Tower of Power, and Tupac Shakur.

Back in San Jose for this week and next, and working slowly but surely. Less than two weeks until trip to NZ… four cities / towns and three weddings in fourteen days. Should be fun. :) Very much looking forward to being home for a while, but also liking the idea of coming back here again afterwards.
