Portland is still wet

Filed under: Random — jsf @ 5:16 pm

Spent last weekend at and around Mount Hood with Hill. Big volcanic cone of a mountain, very reminiscent of Mount Taranaki. Snow on Saturday wasn’t particularly fresh.. pretty solid in places but softened up as the day went on. Found a few fun runs.. speed was the order of the afternoon. Sunday was chilled .. strolling around Hood River, driving back out the Columbia River gorge, walking around 23rd Street, and eating a birthday dinner.

Worked in Portland for the week .. actually in Beaverton. Not much to say about that. Oh yeah, have started running outside again .. pretty cold, but this area is much better suited to it than San Jose.

This weekend just been drove up to Seattle (about 3 hours that-a-way). Climbing (Stone Gardens), ultimate (outside in the mud and rain), brunch (the Dish) church (Mars Hill), DVDs, cupcakes (Royale) and walking dogs. Good fun. :)

Right, back to it.

The joke that keeps on giving…

Why do ducks have flat feet?
To stamp out forest fires.

Why do elephants have flat feet?
To stamp out burning ducks.

Cracks (quacks? haha) me up every time, for some strange reason. Portland is wet but nice. Client campus is huge. Burgers are good.  Weekend is near. And I do believe that is all.

Fourteen days in NZ…

Filed under: Random — jsf @ 2:34 pm

… gone in a flash.

Auckland, Taranaki, Wairarapa, Wellington. Was nice to be back for a while. Good to catch up with many different people… didn’t quite tick off everyone on the list but that was never going to happen.

Rode the Wellington cable car. Enjoyed the view from Paritutu in New Plymouth. Made it back to night church at The Street. Mountain biking at Makara Peak. Coffee at Mojo. Walked down Inglewood’s main street. Drank beer in the sun on the Wellington waterfront. Caught the ferry to Devonport. Climbed flat-top tree in the Botanic Gardens. Strolled in Pukekura Park. Brunch at the White Swan, and Epic, and L’affare. Annoyed the cat.

And even managed to get to a few weddings. :) Rest of the photos are here.

Back in California for a few days. No jetlag .. the thirteen hour evening-departure / morning-arrival flight can just be treated as a slightly longer night than usual, with a slightly more restless sleep than usual. Trip to Tahoe coming up this weekend. Then it looks very likely that work will have me heading off to Portland for the next two months or so.
